Financial Support for Master's Students

To be considered for financial aid, you must meet the following requirements:

  • You must be accepted into the Master’s program at Brown University.
  • You must apply for financial assistance by completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and either the CSS PROFILE or Brown University Financial Aid Application.

You must enroll at least six credits per semester while pursuing your Master’s degree.

Scholarship, Fellowship & Grant Information

The Dolores Zohrab Liebmann Fund Fellowships are for students who are enrolled in a master’s degree program and demonstrate financial need.

The DAAD Study Scholarships and Research Grants are available to current graduate students studying abroad in a study program approved by their home university or institution.

Fulbright Fellowship Opportunities provide funding for U.S.-based graduate students, recent graduates (within five years), professionals and academics to teach English abroad as part of an exchange program between the U.S. Department of State and host countries worldwide.

Additional Types of Aid

Federal Student Aid is a great way to pay for your education, and several types of aid can help you with this. Completing the FAFSA is an important first step in applying for federal student aid. The FAFSA should be submitted each year as soon as possible following the deadline varies by school. You must fill out additional forms if you apply for any other type of federal financial assistance, such as work-study or grants.

In addition to completing the FAFSA, two types of loans are available specifically for graduate students: Federal Direct Graduate Unsubsidized Loans and Federal Direct Graduate PLUS Loans. Suppose you have been accepted into Brown’s M.S. Finance program. In that case, we encourage you to consider taking out both types because they can help finance your education costs while avoiding interest charges until repayment begins six months after graduation or leaving school without finishing any remaining debt obligation from this particular loan type (if applicable).

Special Circumstances

If you have special circumstances affecting your ability to continue in your program, please contact the Financial Aid Office.

  • Loan Eligibility Appeals: We can appeal for you if you have been denied loans because of an adverse credit history or high debt-to-income ratio.
  • Leaves of Absence: If the nature of your disability requires leave from classes or work, please get in touch with us as soon as possible so we can make arrangements for continued funding while away from campus.
  • Withdrawals and Refunds: If you decide not to attend Brown University after all, refunds will be calculated based on when they occur relative to the start date of courses. Students who withdraw after paying their deposit but before classes begin are entitled only to partial refunds; this amount will be determined based on how much money has been paid toward tuition costs.
