Apply for Graduate Courses

Brown University has several programs that offer opportunities for incoming international students who wish to pursue their studies beyond a bachelor’s degree in the United States. Our programs include Master of Arts degrees in Environmental Studies, Public Health, International Relations (I.R.), and Latin American Studies (LAS).

Brown’s graduate international applicants are admitted to the University through the same process as domestic applicants. Brown is a highly selective university and admission to graduate education is highly competitive. While many students will receive an offer of admission from one or more programs, not all will be admitted into their first choice program; therefore, you should apply for multiple programs at once.

Academic Year Costs

Living Expenses (est.)

  • 9 months: $24,930
  • 12 months: $33,240

Financial aid: Brown University has a comprehensive financial assistance program that includes grants, scholarships, loans with minimum repayment terms and work opportunities for students who qualify. The average need-based scholarship award is approximately $50,000 per year. Students may also be eligible for federal student loans through the FAFSA application process; however, these do not require an admission decision from Brown University but rather from your home institution’s financial aid office.

Visa and Immigration Information

If you are applying for a visa to enter the United States, there are several things that you should know about the process. First, you must understand which type of visa is required for entry into the country. There are dozens of different types of visas; however, most international students will apply for an F-1 or J-1 visa. These two types of visas allow holders to travel in and out of the U.S., but they differ in how long they are valid (one year versus two years).

Once your application has been approved by U.S. Customs & Border Protection (CBP), it will be forwarded to Immigration & Customs Enforcement (ICE), which handles immigration matters related specifically to their agency’s domain over matters pertaining directly towards those entering America legally through legal channels such as those mentioned above!

LTI’s programs are designed to help you improve your speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills through individualised instruction geared toward each student’s needs.

LTI offers two types of courses: intensive courses and regular courses. An intensive course is a 15-week program that meets three hours daily, five days weekly. Regular classes meet one hour per day, four days per week, for one semester (15 weeks).

All graduate students who do not already have advanced fluency in English must take an intensive or regular course before enrolling in any other degree program at Brown University.
