At Duke University, financial barriers should not prevent talented and motivated students from pursuing their academic and professional goals. That’s why the University offer a range of financial aid options to help make a Duke education accessible and affordable.
Types of Financial Aid
Duke offer a variety of financial aid options to help students cover the cost of tuition, fees, and living expenses. These include:
- Scholarships: Duke offers a range of merit-based scholarships to incoming and current students. These scholarships are awarded based on academic achievement, leadership potential, and other criteria.
- Grants: Duke also offer need-based grants to eligible students. These grants do not need to be repaid and are awarded based on financial need.
- Work-Study: Duke participates in the Federal Work-Study program, which provides part-time job opportunities for eligible students to help cover their educational expenses.
- Loans: Duke offers a range of loan options, including federal and private loans, to help students cover the cost of their education. We encourage students to borrow responsibly and consider their repayment options carefully.
Applying for Financial Aid
To be considered for financial aid at Duke, you must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and the CSS Profile. These forms help us determine your eligibility for need-based aid and scholarships. The priority deadline for submitting these forms is February 1 for incoming students and October 1 for returning students.
Understanding Your Financial Aid Award
Once we receive your financial aid application, we will send you a financial aid award letter outlining the types and amounts of aid you are eligible to receive. This letter will also include information about the cost of attendance and your expected family contribution.
