Duke University Scholarships List

The Duke University scholarship program is one of the most competitive in the nation. Scholarships, grants and awards are awarded primarily based on merit and need. Approximately 40% of undergraduate students receive some form of financial aid. Duke awards scholarships to undergraduate students based on their full-time enrollment in a degree-seeking program and demonstrated academic achievement.

Duke University Scholarships

Duke University Scholarships are awarded to students based on academic merit, financial need and leadership. The university offers more than $13 million in scholarships each year.

The Duke University Scholarship is a full-tuition scholarship awarded to first-year students with exceptional academic credentials who demonstrate leadership potential. The award covers tuition plus room and board for four years at Duke University’s main Durham, North Carolina campus. Students admitted into this program also become members of the Grace Hopper Program (GHP), which provides opportunities for community engagement through mentorship programs, leadership training and networking events throughout the year.

Undergraduate Scholarships

Here are some of the most popular scholarships available from Duke:

  • The International Student Scholarship is available to international students who want to study at the undergraduate level. This scholarship awards $1,500 per year.
  • The Women’s Alumnae Association Scholarship is open to female students admitted into a degree program at Duke University and will be enrolled in fall 2018 or 2019. Recipients will receive $2,500 annually for four years (up to $10,000).
  • The Minority Alumni Scholarship Program provides financial assistance to minority alumni of Duke University who are interested in returning as graduate students but need financial support while doing so. Applicants must be U.S.-born citizens or permanent residents (green card holders). Recipients receive up to $12,000 over two years with no restrictions on using funds except that they cannot be used for tuition payments.
  • The Disability Studies Minor Scholarship gives preference to applicants whose disabilities require specialized equipment or services not otherwise covered by their assistantships or grants.

Graduate and Professional School Awards

Duke University offers scholarships to students interested in pursuing graduate studies. These awards range from merit-based undergraduate scholarships to doctoral candidates and postdoctoral fellows funding. Here are some examples of the types of awards available:

  • Graduate Merit Scholarships: Awarded by the Graduate School based on academic performance at Duke University, these awards provide full tuition plus fees (up to a $10,000 stipend) for one year or two semesters.* *
  • Graduate Diversity Scholarships: Awarded by departments within each school, these awards recognize students who have demonstrated a commitment to diversity and inclusion through their work in ethnic studies; gender studies; LGBTQIA+ communities; linguistics/sign language interpretation/translation studies; multicultural/intercultural communication studies; peace/conflict resolution programs outside academia such as AmeriCorps VISTA program participants.

International Student Award

The International Student Award is a competitive scholarship for international students admitted to Duke University. The award is worth $10,000 annually and can be renewed for up to four years.

Applicants must be admitted as full-time students at the Durham campus, have financial needs and demonstrate academic achievement through high school coursework or standardized test scores (such as SAT or ACT).

Duke University Scholarships for International Students

Duke University’s International Scholarship is awarded to international students pursuing undergraduate or graduate degrees at Duke. In terms of academic merit and financial need, the scholarship can be renewed for up to two years.

To be eligible for this scholarship, you must be an international student studying at Duke University as an undergraduate or graduate student in 2019-2020. You must also have been admitted into a full-time degree program at Duke University with an expected enrollment date between August 1, 2019, and July 31, 2020 (for more details about the application process and deadlines, see here).

Duke University Scholarships Eligibility

To be eligible for the Duke University Scholarships, you must:

  • Be a student at Duke University.
  • Be a first-year, second-year student, junior or senior.
  • Have a minimum GPA of 3.5 (or 2.8 if you’re an international student).

How to Apply for Duke University Scholarship

To apply for a Duke University scholarship, applicants must fill out and apply along with other required documents. The application is available online and downloaded from the Duke University website.

There are many scholarships available to students at Duke.

The university has a generous scholarship program, with over 1,000 awards for incoming first-year students. In addition to offering need-based aid and merit-based grants, the university also provides a range of scholarships for international students who wish to study at Duke University or abroad as part of their undergraduate degree program.
