Northwestern University is a private research university in Evanston, Illinois. It was founded by John Evans, for whom the city of Evanston is named, and eight other founders. It opened in 1855 with nine male students and one female student.

The school started as a preparatory school but later became an institution of higher education offering undergraduate programs only after receiving its charter from Congress in 1865. The University offers more than 200 majors across various disciplines, including arts and sciences, engineering, business administration (including MBA), journalism and communication, etcetera

Financial Aids

Financial aid is available for students who qualify. The process of financial assistance takes place after you have been accepted to the University, and it can be used for tuition and fees, room and board, books or other educational expenses. Financial aid is also available for international students attending Northwestern University on an F-1 visa.

Students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) before they may be considered for federal student loans or grants from Northwestern University’s Office of Financial Aid & Scholarships (OFAS). The FAFSA determines eligibility based on family size and income information provided by parents on their federal tax returns from two years before when they plan on enrolling at Northwestern University.
