Northwestern University offers online degrees in various subjects, including business, communications and journalism, engineering, music and theatre. You can also earn a master’s degree in one of several fields. Online students can choose from the following programs:

Northwestern University offers over 40 undergraduate and graduate degrees across seven different schools. In addition to their extensive curricula, they provide more than 50 online courses each year through their School of Professional Studies.

Courses List

Northwestern University’s online programs are divided into four schools: the School of Continuing Studies, which offers certificate and degree programs; the School of Professional Studies, which offers non-degree graduate certificates; the School of Law; and the Medill School of Journalism.

The University also offers courses through its Division of Continuing and Professional Studies (DCP). The DCP provides over 50 undergraduate degrees at various locations throughout Illinois, including Chicago and Evanston (where Northwestern is located). These include business administration degrees from the Kellogg School of Management and liberal arts majors like psychology or sociology from the Weinberg College of Arts & Sciences.

Eligibility

For you to be eligible for admission into Northwestern University's online programs, you must:

Be a high school graduate or equivalent.
Have completed a minimum of 16 college credits.

Have completed at least one course in the following areas: English Composition, Mathematics (including Algebra), Natural Science/Lab Science and Social Sciences/Humanities. Your official transcript should reflect this coursework and all other transferable courses from your previous institutions.

Requirements

Be a graduate of an accredited high school or equivalent
Have earned a minimum 2.5 GPA on a 4-point scale (or its equivalent) in all college coursework attempted at the time of application
Be at least 18 years old by the start date of your program and plan to enrol as a full-time student in fall 2019; if you are under 21 years old on your program start date, we will require you to submit proof that you have completed at least 12 hours of postsecondary education before enrollment.
If admitted, this requirement will be waived once official transcripts show the completion of required prerequisites for admission into the program(s) selected by the applicant during the application process.

How to apply

To apply online, you’ll need to create an account and follow the steps on our application website. You can submit your application materials by mail or fax, or through our online platform.

Once we receive your completed application, it will be reviewed by our Admission Committee. Your file will be reviewed for academic readiness based on test scores and GPA; if admitted, you will be notified via email within two weeks of submission of all required documents (including official transcripts).
