Integrated Science Program

Northwestern University’s Integrated Science Program is designed for students pursuing a medical, dentistry, veterinary medicine or pharmacy career. The program offers two tracks: Biomedical Sciences and Pre-Health Professions. Students will choose their focus while they complete their bachelor’s degree.

What is ISP?

The Integrated Science Program (ISP) is a highly selective pre-professional. Students who are accepted into ISP must complete a set of core courses and conduct original research for their thesis project. In addition to these requirements, students must complete an internship in their final year and maintain a GPA of 3.0 or higher throughout their time in the program.

How to Apply

To apply, visit the Northwestern University website and click the "Admissions" tab. There you will find a link to the Integrated Science Program application form and information about submitting your application materials.

Applicants must submit the following:

  • A completed online application form (including all required documents) by the deadline listed on our website
  • An official transcript from all post-secondary institutions attended (if you have attended more than one college/university at any time in your academic career)

Requirements

Northwestern is a highly selective school, and the Integrated Science Program is no exception. Students must meet certain requirements to be considered for admission into the program.

  • Minimum GPA: 3.4 (unweighted) or 3.5 (weighted) in biology, chemistry and physics courses
  • Minimum SAT/ACT scores: 1200 on each section of the SAT or 33 on each section of the ACT
  • Minimum science GPA: 4.0 cumulative science GPA (biology, chemistry, physics)

Strongly recommended courses include organic chemistry, general organic chemistry lab, biochemistry I-II with labs; biochemistry III with lab; genetics; cell biology; molecular biology I-II with labs; genetics II; biochemistry electives such as metabolism or enzymology.

ISP has a very competitive application process and is only for some.

The ISP program is highly competitive, highly selective and rigorous and aims to prepare students for careers in science.

For example, if you’re interested in being a scientist or engineer but are still deciding which field to pursue–or if you want to explore both areas–ISP may be right for you!

The Integrated Science Program (ISP) application process at Northwestern University is very competitive. Students will need strong grades, test scores, and letters of recommendation from teachers and community leaders who can speak about their leadership ability and commitment to STEM (science, technology, engineering, math).
