Add or Remove Dual Degree Program

Northwestern University offers many dual-degree programs that allow you to earn two undergraduate degrees in as little as five years. These programs will enable you to take advantage of our innovative program offerings, connect with faculty and students, and be part of a community focused on high academic excellence and success standards.

Application

Applying to the dual-degree program is similar to applying to each school, but there are important differences.

It would help if you were admitted to Northwestern University and the University of Michigan School of Law to apply to their dual degree programs. Once both schools have accepted you, you will need to submit an application form for each program separately by its deadline; these deadlines are typically earlier than those for regular applicants so that candidates may be considered for scholarships at one or both institutions.

Deadlines to Add or Remove a Dual Degree Program

Add a Dual-Degree Program Process

To apply to a dual-degree program, you must first apply to Northwestern University and the other institution where you wish to pursue your degree. You will be asked to provide a statement of purpose for each program to which you are applying, as well as transcripts from your current school (if applicable). Letters of recommendation should come from professors who know your work well and can speak about its strengths.

In addition, please provide us with a resume outlining any relevant professional or academic experience achieved by completing this form!

Remove a Dual-Degree Program Process

To remove a dual-degree program, you must submit a request to change your dual-degree program to the Office of the Registrar. The process for removing a dual-degree program is similar to the process of adding one:

  • It would help if you met with an academic advisor from each school and college involved in your current or proposed new joint degree program.
  • Your request must be approved by both schools/colleges involved in your joint degree program (if applicable). This approval may be given verbally or in writing by an appropriate official at each school/college involved in your proposed joint degree program.

Change One Program in a Currently Declared Dual-Degree Program Process

To change one program in a currently declared dual-degree program, you must go through the same procedures as when you first declared your dual-degree program. To do this:

  • Complete an application to the other school and submit it to their admissions office. In addition to submitting this application, additional requirements may need to be met before they will consider changing programs (for example, meeting with an advisor).
  • Once Northwestern has notified the other institution that all requirements have been met and their decision has been made regarding admission into their school, we will email you any new requirements that need to be completed for us; both schools’ admission decisions can be finalized.

It’s important to know how to change your declared dual degree program.

If you want to add or remove a dual degree program, follow the procedures listed in the Northwestern University Catalog. If you change one program in a currently declared dual degree program, you must follow the guidelines listed in the Northwestern University Catalog.
